Como se formam as pérolas?
Pérolas naturais se formam quando partículas estranhas (areia, pedaços de rochas) ou parasitas entram na concha de algumas ostras, o que faz com que o animal secrete camadas de nácar (madrepérola) como mecanismo ...de defesa que cristaliza o invasor, defendendo o manto (tecido que protege os órgãos da ostra); leva cerca de três anos para que esse material se torne uma pérola. Pérolas cultivadas pelo homem sofrem um processo igual, porém o início da formação é intensionalmente causada pelo homem: é introduzido um núcleo sintético na concha para estimular o sistema de defesa da ostra. A única forma de diferenciar uma pérola natural e uma cultivada é analizar a parte interna da pérola, fora isso, ambas possuem beleza igual.

Natural pearls are formed when foreign particles (sand, pieces of other shells or rocks) or parasites enter the shell of some oysters, which makes the animal secrete layers of nacre (mother of pearl) as a defense mechanism that crystallizes the attacker to defend the mantle (tissue that protects the organs of the oyster); it takes about three years for this material to become a pearl. Cultured pearls by man suffer the same process, but the beginning of the formation is intentionally caused by man: synthetic nucleus is introduced in the shell to stimulate the defense system of the oyster. The only way to differentiate a natural pearl from a cultured one is to analyze the inside of pearl, apart from that, both have equal beauty.
